Our Autobiographies...

AS the end of the school year approaches and the children's new and exciting adventures begin, we have looked back on their time at BSM and written autobiographies. Here are a few...

Tom Phipps

BSM
The Unforgettable Journey

As the warm summer term comes to an end – tears role down my face. I, Tom Phipps have made lots of friends! I was born on 16th December 2002. I have been at Blandford St Mary primary school for 7 years (from reception to year 6) I've had 3 amazing head teachers:Mrs Baker, Mr Lavis and Mrs Brown (current head). I have mixed feelings about the adventuress future...

My First Competitive Race
My First competitive race was an obstacle course. Where we had to get dress then under, over, under, over, under and then sprint to the finish line. I also did skipping egg and spoon. My last race was the sprint – I was buzzing with joy  as I walked up to my lane. On the sound of go I put all of my energy into the final race! That day I won 3 time and came 3rd once!

Y5 Camp
My class all arrived with their over flowing bags, some with their tents. Once the tents were set up (which took a long time) we all started a pillow fight. But the teachers told us to stop. When we had settled down we had hot chocolate, then we ran of into our tents. That very same night my friend Riley gent went out and asked for a jam sandwich! Out of no-where.
The next day a zorbing company came. After breakfast we all  rusted up in line for zorbing. It was  great fun, but you got hot and sweaty. In the afternoon we had den building, different groups made different types of dens ( my group made a brush). The next morning after breakfast we all packed up and went home.

Last Sports Day
It was my last sports day at Blandford St Mary. I was determined to win my races. But my injury was letting me down (Osgood schlatter. I signed up for shot put, middle distance, long distance. First I did shot put and won it, I got 10.3 meters. Then I did long distance, but after 1 lap my knees went and I couldn't take it and I had to drop out. I didn't want to let my house down. So I went up to do middle distance but the head of P.E wouldn't let me and said I had to get someone else to run. :( Even though I failed my house they did me proud and won.

I would like to thank may teachers and TA's for helping me get this far. I'm also moving to ISB (Brunei) Also I like to thank  my respecting friends for supporting me all the way!

Harry Manners

My BSM Adventure!

As the warm summer term draws to an end, I Harry James Manners born on the 12th December 2002 (making me 11 years old, in a few months 12) am feeling excited about my future ahead and all the challenges I will have to face. I am going to tell about my life a Blandford St Mary Primary School (BSM) and the significant events I have lived at this magnificent school.

First Experiences!

I can remember the first Sports Day, Beach trip in Year 1, because I can remember more clearly than in Reception, and the first time I set foot in BS Primary School like it was yesterday! Lets start with Sports Day. When I was in Reception, I looked up to the likes of my brother and my brother's friends, because they were doing the big boy races! Although the races back in KS1 were still very fun! Oh yes! I just remembered! I did the big boy races this year in Year 6 and to make it even better, Melbury won! Anyway back to Sports Day in Reception. I made a very good first impression on my sport by winning the sack race for Melbury. By the way, there are 4 houses and each pupil, who come to BSM, is put into 1 of the houses. The houses are Bulbarrow, Stour, Melbury and Hambledon. If  you have an older sibling that came to BSM Primary School before you, you will be put in that house. My brother was put in Melbury so I was too! I loved that Sports Day and I couldn't wait for the next Sports Day to come around in Year 1! Moving onto the Beach Trip in Year 1. I picked Year 1, because it was more exciting when my best friend Adam joined. Building giant sand castles. When I say a sand castle I actually mean, a huge mound of sand with no appearance resembling a castle, apart from a flag. Oh and then digging a huge hole in the ground  until you reach water and then proceed to sit in it for hours on end. Oh it's all such great fun. My mum came with me to the beach and I can remember being in a group with Adam, (my best friend) Louise and Miranda. When we arrived at the beach me and Adam pretended to be Iron man and Louise and Miranda pretended to be fairies! We all had a great time and I'm doing it again this year!

Lets go Camping!

Year 5 Camp was truly camptastic! Every part of year 5 camp was A-M-A-ZING! From eating a piece of bacon to Zorbing. All of it was great! On the week of Year 5 Camp, I had to get stuff sorted out. Getting clothing ready, getting the tent down from the loft .ect. The day of Year 5 Camp had come and my mum, dad and myself went up in the car with the tent. A few days before, Miss Walton had to sort out who was going in which tent. I got a tent with Riley and Tom. It was a good group. Once I dad got up to BSM my dad set up the tent and I then said”Bye!” to my mum and dad. The fun had started. A bit later on it was dinner time and of course bed time! The next day we did lots of enjoyable and exhilarating activities. Eat,sleep activity, repeat! Before I knew it, it was time to go home. Whilst my mum walked through the playground and onto the field, I was playing football on the astro turf. I waved bye to my friends and I went home.

Adventure Time!

Going to the Isle of Wight to go to Little Canada was a totally new experience. It was a lot like Leeson House and Year 5 Camp. When we got there I was told who I was sleeping with in my cabin. I slept with Adam,(my best friend) Riley and Archie. It was an amazing cabin. There were many activities to do and all of them were so much fun! The big swing was my favourite part of Little Canada and the food! The food was top quality and you could have as much water and squash as you like. It was truly amazing going to the Isle of Wight with my friends. I loved Little Canada!

Goodbye BSM!

New challenges, new friends, new lessons and a HUGE new school awaits me. As the term ends, I will thank all my friends and teachers for helping me along the way of my primary school days. Bye  Blandford St Mary Primary School!

Katie Dear

                      My BSM Adventure

As the summer term comes to an end I , Katie Louise Anne Dear, born on 15/9/2002 will be telling you about my time here at Blandford St Mary Primary School. I have been here for 7 years (I came to preschool as well.) Throughout my years at BSM, I made so many friends and I hope to continue this way at The Blandford School.

My First Steps
I joined BSM in 2008 and this was the most worrying year of my life. The feeling of watching my mum leave me and walk straight through the gates, terrified me. I felt so nervous that for part of the day I didn't even know what was happening. The most memorable part of Reception was registration; I used to curl up in a ball and stare !

Beach Trip
Even though this was wicked day, I was full of butterflies at times. As I arrived at the beach,  I was hopping about being as excited as a kangaroo. The teacher set us a competition to be as adventurous as possible with the soggy sand. My group and I made a car and sat in it. This was the best trip I'd ever known. As of other experiences, I was anxious about going into the sea, so one of my friends held my hand and walked me in... What a wonderful friend !

Egyptian Day
Every time, I turn back time to re-call this event I automatically go red. The Egyptian day had come. The day we had to spring into our clothes and walk into school. All heads turn to me and stare... my thoughts were  oh no it had began, be casual, but luckily I wasn't the only one, I had my class. Later on that day, we played games as Egyptians such as: being wrapped up in toilet paper as a mummy and voice changing  games, in year 3 it was a good day, but embarrassing!

PGL  Adventure
Throughout my years at BSM, Little Canada was one I always looked forward to. Everyone of the suitcases were bulging out with luggage. We did so many outstanding activities, which are unforgettable (big swing, zip wire, problem solving, circus skills and so many more), this was the most spectacular 4 day and 3 night residential trip ever occurring !

It is by far the best school ever ( I recommend it.) As I start to take the next step onwards to The Blandford School (TBS) I will be so sad leave, because all of my memorable moments that are treasured here at BSM. I thank all members of staff for what they have done-that brought me here today.

Molly Fowler

                                              My time at BSM
As the summer term draws to a close I Molly Ann Fowler, born on 4th January 2003 am looking forward to the next step in my life- The Blandford school. I am going to tell you about my time here at Blandford St Mary school from y2 to y6.
Joining BSM
I came from London and now I live here in Blandford. I joined Blandford St Mary on my birthday in y2(2009).When I got to this school everyone sung happy birthday to me( it was really embarrassing) I had to stand up in front of  the whole class- what a way to start my time here!
Early Days
In y2 it was the best school year of my life because we made tie-dye t-shirts with yellow and green dye(for my first ever arts week)it was my first arty memory at the school. In 2 buckets there was green dye and also yellow dye. We had to tie a scrunch on our tops then dip the scrunches into the buckets. In y2 we were Antarctica base and our first topic was Antarctica. It was the funnest year of Primary school so far.
Getting used to BSM
Now I'm going to tell you what happened in years 3 and 4. In y3 we had an Egyptian day where we had to eat Egyptian food and dress like an Egyptian, this is one of my clear memories. I had to eat a date and humus. YUCK! Now in y4 we had our first residential trip- Leeson House. We did lots of activities including pond dipping, orienteering, hiking and history about our surroundings. By the end of y4 I felt like I was really part of the school.
Jam Packed 2 Years
So in y5 we had y5 camp on the school field, we had Mr Lavis's(the head teacher at the time) special doughnuts they were so good! We did den building, zorbing, capture the flag and we had  water fight! Also in y5 we went to north forte we did WW2 activities including writing letters to home and being shop keepers Now this was the most scary thing of all SAT'S this took lots of focus which I have lots of! Time for the most memorable trip of my life PGL. This was amazing we did : challenge course, sensory trail, giant swing, zip wire, disco, lots of late nights and the best thing of all SWEETS!

It is time for me to move on to The Blandford School, as I go onto the next step of my journey, I am going to be so sad because that means I am never going to come to this school EVER again. I am exited and nervous about it but I'm sure I'm  going to fit in. I will miss all of the teachers and all of the humor throughout the school.               Goodbye BSM!

Our Very Own Picasso...

We spent the afternoon last week creating our very own Picasso style image! The children started with an image of a toucan which was then broken up into 6 pieces. In groups, the children created each section of the painting - their challenge was to use at least three different materials. The outcome is fantastic and they should be very proud!

Come in and have a look at the real thing which is proudly on display in the classroom!

Little Canada!

What a weekend!! We really did have a fun packed weekend with lots of exciting and daring activities! The children were outstanding and challenged themselves to do things they never thought possible! Miss Walton and I could not have been more proud of their impeccable behaviour and attitudes all weekend. They were a credit to themselves and the school!

Here is just a snapshot of the weekend and the adventures they experienced!

Have a glance at the website to see images and long list of possible activities we will be experiencing!

World Cup Topic

In the mornings in year 6 we are completing a mini World Cup topic for numeracy and literacy!

Literacy:

We have already started researching into a famous footballer of our choice to write a biography. We are then going to watch a small section of a game in order to write a commentary, which will focus on our presenting, speaking and listening and script writing skills.

Numeracy:

In numeracy we have just finished our transition work to TBS of drawing accurate polygons. We are now going to begin constructing bar graphs and pie charts using World Cup data. We are also going to use this information to work out percentages to see which country really is the most successful!

Thanks to Adam for creating our match timetable, we are also keeping a close look on the games and their scores!

Arts Week

As a school, we are focusing on South America! In year 6 we are going to concentrate on Brazil! Our mornings will be catered towards finding out and using art as a media to express our findings.

Your afternoons will be spent exploring all of South America as you move around the school to different stations and experiment with different medias.

Brazil!

We are going to focus on the very famous carnival festival that is celebrated in Brazil annually! We are therefore going to be making our very own carnival masks - using tissue paper maché and plastic masks as a mould for our design.

We are also going to link this topic to our literacy, geography, IT, history and numeracy skills! It's going to be a busy week!

Vile Victorians...!

Our topic this half term is Vile Victorians, which follows on nicely after reading Street Child! We have already thought a lot about the life of children and Queen Victoria! The biographies we wrote about her were brilliant and the children worked very hard to find their information using a range of sources!

Next, we will be thinking about how to dress like a victorian - linking to our literacy work of Explanation Texts. We will be comparing the lives of the rich and poor and thinking more deeply into how life and changed and WHY.
